Curtains is a backstage musical whodunnit! It has music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the Tony-winning duo who also wrote Chicago and Cabaret among many other hit shows. Its book is by Rupert Holmes from an original concept by Peter Stone.
There are many roles available for performers age 16 and up. There are no children's roles in this production. There are some non-singing roles available for men.
Leading roles include Frank Cioffi, a musical-loving detective assigned to find out who killed the leading lady during a Boston try-out for a new musical. Among the suspects are Carmen, the producer, and Aaron and Georgia, the song writing team for Robbin' Hood. The rest of the cast including dancer Bambi and leading man Bobby are also under suspicion as the investigation continues.
Non-singing roles include a local theatre critic, the bombastic British director of the show, Carmen's husband and co-producer, and Cioffi's assistant.
The cast includes the stage manager Johnny, a talentless leading lady who is dispatched in the opening number, and the singers and dancers in the ensemble, and everyone responsible for putting on the show.
