"The Odd Couple" returns to PCPH in September

Neil Simon's The Odd Couple will close the 55th season of Putnam County Playhouse. This time around, the leading characters are female, although the situations and the laughs are the same.

Director for the production is Andrew Ranck. Stage Manager for the show is Jessica Masner. Set designer is Linda Gjesvold.

Appearing in the leading roles are Sarah Bond as Olive Madison and Meghan Armitage as Florence Unger - the distaff equivalents of Oscar & Felix.

Featured performers include Kathy Arnold as Vera, Allison Creekmore as Sylvie, Karen Sutherlin as Mickey, and Katie Wallace as Renee.

The brothers upstairs will be played by Ric McFadden and Dustin Bond.

McFadden and Sutherlin appeared in the original production of  The Odd Couple (The Female Version) when it was produced at PCPH in 1991. Sutherlin is reprising her role as Mickey the cop, and McFadden is playing the other brother this time around.

Director is Shelly McFadden. Vocal direction is by Kathryn Dory. Pit conductor and pianist is Marilyn Burdsall Rush. Also in the pit are Dedee Schwomeyer, percussion; Marcia Boswell, woodwinds; and Morgan Asher, keyboard.

Linda Gjesvold designed the set and choreography is by Deb Grammel. Assistant director is Katie Wallace. Costumer and wig designer is Diana Van Middlesworth.

The cast is led by Joe Buser as John Adams, Ric McFadden as Ben Franklin, and Lee Reberger as Thomas Jefferson.  Buser is making his PCPH debut. McFadden has played leading roles in The Music Man, Man of La Mancha, and Camelot.  He most recently appeared in Damn Yankees at Myers Dinner Theatre. Reberger appeared in The Drowsy Chaperone and directed last season's Into The Woods. 

They are joined by Josh Bain as conservative John Dickenson, Chris Wurster as Col. Thomas McKean, and Michael McClaine as President of the Continental Congress, John Hancock.

1776 relates the story of the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence.  The founding fathers are seen as real men and not the one-dimensional characters usually found in history books.

The large cast also includes Gary Van Middlesworth as Richard Henry Lee, Dustin Bond as Edward Rutledge, Don Wilson as Stephen Hopkins.

Other members of the Congress are played by Matt Schneider, Clarence Long, Jacob Riggen, Andrew Ranck, Michael Nowling, Jim Rambo, Lance Clodfelter, Jacob Glidden, Brian Howard, Bill Cole, and Jack Randall Earles.

Appearing in supporting  roles are Scott Armitage, Joe Lippard, Alex Asbell, and Donovan Asbell.

Also working on the technical side are Jessica Masner, stage manager; Samantha Flannelly, sound board operator; Melissa Green, light board operator; and Cameron Wunderlich and Sarah Nowling as spotlight operators.

The musical originally opened on Broadway and was nominated for five Tony Awards.  It won three including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Featured Actor (Ron Holgate, who played Richard Henry Lee).  Music and lyrics are by Sherman Edwards and the book is by Peter Stone.

WE SEE THE LIGHT!!!

 Hendricks Power Cooperative contributed $3,750 towards a lighting project for the Putnam County Playhouse and sought a matching grant from CoBank's "Sharing Success" program. This $7,500 plus other funds raised by the organization will allow them to replace the existing 15+ year old lighting system. The outdated system was malfunctioning, causing not only lighting issues for productions, but 

 also safety concerns. 

"Hendricks Power is committed to helping our communities thrive in all areas and this project aligned well with our efforts from a lighting, energy efficiency and safety perspective," said Dana Cochran, Director of Corporate Marketing. "We are glad to provide these funds and help attain the matching grant from CoBank so that the Putnam County Playhouse can continue to provide high quality productions for its community."

"Our old lighting system was used when we obtained it over 15 years ago," stated Michael McClaine, Playhouse Board President.  "Needless to say, this grant came just in time to avoid major disruptions in performances and insures technical lighting reliability going forward for many years."  

Board member Drew Brattain added, "The support we received from Hendricks Power and CoBank is greatly appreciated and demonstrates their willingness to give back to communities they serve."   

The Putnam County Community Foundation helped facilitate this grant by bringing the need to Hendricks Power.
